Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Big Sur, Ca. Painted by Marty Hart Lee
California State Park, a jewel in Big Sur, California. I had never heard of this State Park. While driving south on Hwy 1 just north of Big Sur, I spotted a squirrel eating a nut close to the road. I asked  my husband, "the Don" to stop so I could take a picture. I peaked through the trees to see the ocean below and to my surprise, this is what I saw. I thought I  had discovered a sight few people had to know about. I had been on this stretch of Highway One many times and didn't even know it was there. Turns out the squirrel was used to being fed by passers-by-  cuz he didn't move, he begged for a snack. Then I saw the "State Marker" on how the Park came to be donated. On the next tourist stop I bought a book on the area so I wouldn't miss another "Jewel" like this one. I couldn't wait to paint  it.
